A youth died while his friend sustained injuries when a speeding car knocked down their motorcycle near Mauli Jagran village here.

The incident took place on Tuesday when Vikas, a resident of Ambala, and his friend Kaushal, were going to their college. The duo was rushed to the Civil Hospital in Sector 6 here where Vikas was declared brought dead while Kaushal was referred to the GMCH in Sector 32, Chandigarh.

The car driver managed to escape from the spot leaving his vehicle behind. According to the complainant, Amit Kumar, who lives in Vikas’ neighbourhood, stated that he came to know about the mishap while he was on his way to Panchkula for a personal work.

A case has been registered under Sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC.
