Young Scientist Award for botany Asst Professor

CHANDIGARH:Dr Santosh Kumar Upadhyay, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Panjab University, has been awarded the ‘Young Scientist Award’ by the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), India, for his research and contribution to the area of plant improvement for the biennium 2017-2018.

Dr Santosh Kumar Upadhyay, Assistant Professor, Department of Botany, Panjab University, has been awarded the ‘Young Scientist Award’ by the National Academy of Agricultural Sciences (NAAS), India, for his research and contribution to the area of plant improvement for the biennium 2017-2018.

The award was given during the XIV Agricultural Science Congress in New Delhi, in the presence of Radha Mohan Singh, Union Minister of Agriculture and Farmers Welfare. Minister of State for Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Gajendra Singh Shekhawat was present.

Upadhyay has been working in the field of plant biotechnology for more than 12 years. His research focuses on functional genomics. He is involved in the characterisation of various insect toxic proteins from plant biodiversity and defence and stress signalling genes in bread wheat. He has played significant role in the identification of whitefly toxic proteins from lower plants and involved in the development of whitefly resistant cotton plants. — TNS
