In the run-up to Diwali festival, the District Health Department raided workshops of several popular sweets shops, including Gopals, here today.
Led by District Health Officer Satinder Singh, the health team raided workshops of various sweets shops and collected 11 samples. The team conducted the raids on workshops of Gopal’s Sweets, Shree Ram Puppy Patisa Sweets and Manchanda Sweets Shop.
The team collected samples of khoya, milk cake and rasgulla from the workshop of Gopal’s Sweets, while samples of besan and patisa were collected from Shree Ram Puppy Patisa Sweets.
The team also raided the workshop of Manchanda Sweets in Gobindnagar in Model Town and collected the samples each of khoya barfi, gulab jamun and milk cake. The samples will be sent to the state Food Testing Laboratory in Kharar, said officials.
The team also raided Malhotra Sweets in the Adalat Bazaar market. During the raid, the health team collected the samples of besan, barfi and gulab jamun from the shop.
Satinder said: “We will continue the raids till Diwali to check adulteration. Though action will be taken after the lab reports are received, regular inspections will keep a check on food handlers from indulging in the practice ofadulteration.”
