The fifth workshop of Swachhata Action Plan (SAP), on the theme of ‘Management of Biomass (agri waste and municipal waste) into Bioresources’, under the aegis of the Department of Science and Technology (DST), is being organised by DST-Centre for Policy Research, in association with Chandigarh Region Innovation and Knowledge Cluster (CRIKC), at Panjab University on Tuesday.
The event will see representations from the Government (state and central), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), scientific community (universities and national research labs), Industries (agro-based and food industry), farming community (farmers’ associations and corporate farmers) and Punjab Pollution Control Board. The event will be marked by deliberations on identifying strategies for optimum utilisation of paddy straw as bio-fuels and raw material in various industries, with a session on ‘Sustainable Management of Agro-waste’.
Focus on straw burning
The aim is to mobilise the national administrative-academic-industrial ecosystem to address and resolve the issue of agricultural and municipal waste with particular focus on the issue of stubble burning.
