Woman hangs herself to death

Zirakpur, March 13

A 40-year-old woman committed suicide by hanging herself from the ceiling at her residence at Bhabat village here on Monday night.

The deceased has been identified as Laxmi Devi, a resident of Bhabat. According to the police, the incident came to light when her husband saw her body hanging and informed the police. As per preliminary investigations, the deceased was mentally upset following which she might have taken such an extreme step, said the police.

The body of the deceased had been kept in the mortuary at the Civil Hospital, Dera Bassi, for post-mortem, which will be conducted on Wednesday. Meanwhile, the police had initiated an inquest proceeding into the matter. — OC
