The UT police have arrested four members of a family for a dowry death after a 20-year-woman committed suicide by taking poison at Ram Darbar.

According to the police, the victim, identified as Pinky, took poison on the night of September 16. She was rushed to the GMCH, Sector 32, by her in-laws where doctors declared her dead. The hospital authorities informed the police, who reached the hospital.

The police said victim’s brother Vijender, a resident of Sector 56, had alleged that his sister was being harassed for dowry by her husband Gyan Singh (21) and his family members — Lallan, Rekha, Dinesh and others.

The police said a case under Sections 304-B (dowry death) of the IPC had been registered against the suspects at the Sector 31 police station and they had been arrested.
