Patiala, July 9

A 55-year-old woman of Sanaur was killed in a road accident on the Sirhind road here on Monday.

The police said the victim, identified as Draupadi, had gone to a nearby bank for corrections in her Aadhaar card when a car coming from opposite direction rammed into her.

Bystanders said there were three persons in the car — the driver, a woman and a child. The car driver sped away after hitting the woman leaving the vehicle behind.

As per an eyewitness, the woman was trying to cross the road when a speeding Maruti 800 car hit her. The impact of the collision was so strong that the front windshield of the car was shattered.

Rajesh Malhotra, SHO, Tripuri police station, said, “The woman had gone out for a matter concerning her Aadhaar card when she was killed on the spot in an accident. We have registered a case against the car driver who is absconding. The post-mortem examination of the victim will be conducted on Tuesday.”

Meanwhile, bystanders claimed that the police officials reached the spot very late.

They also held a protest on the road, which led to traffic jam. DSP Sukh Amrit Randhawa, however, refuted the claim and said the police reached the spot and the traffic was cleared in no time.
