Chandigarh, May 15

A 37-year-old woman from Sector 37 here has been diagnosed with dengue. The incident came to light on Tuesday when pathology tests confirmed that the woman was suffering from dengue. The dengue case has surfaced barely a day before National Dengue Day.

Soon after receiving the information, the Heath Department swung into action and carried out an intensive screening to check the breeding of mosquitoes.

However, no breeding of aedes aegypti mosquito was found in the vicinity from where the dengue case was reported. However, the Health Department team imposed a fine on the dengue patient’s husband and a person living in the neighbourhood after lids of the overhead water tanks of their respective houses were found missing.

The Heath Department maintained that it was not a fresh case of dengue. A health official said the woman suffered from chikungunya last year and at present she was suffering from typhoid.

“When a patient suffers from such ailments, antibodies remain present in the body and there are high chances of relapse,” said the health official.

Sensitisation, training camp

On the occasion of National Dengue Day, the Health Department is going to hold a sensitisation and training camp involving 200 science teachers of different government schools of the city. The training programme will be organised with an objective to keep a check on mosquito breeding in schools. Last year, the department had received several complaints and even took action against some of the schools for failing to check mosquito breeding on their premises.
