Kharar, June 7

The statewide agitation, launched by the Punjab Congress on 30 May against a spurt in fuel prices, will be taken to the village level. This was announced by Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee president and Gurdaspur MP Sunil Jakhar during a rally in Kharar. Jakhar rode a bicycle to register the protest. He was accompanied by former Punjab minister Jagmohan Singh Kang.

The state Congress president said the previous SAD-BJP government had turned politics into business. Jakhar said he had urged former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal not to transact any deal with BJP president Amit Shah during his visit to Chandigarh today. “Badals must raise farmers’ issues,” he said.

Jakhar further stressed that farmers of Punjab had came under an  additional burden of Rs 1,500 crore due to increasing fuel prices. He further alleged that the BJP-led Union Government had become completely authoritarian under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “He is not concerned about people’s problems,” Jakhar alleged.

Accusing Modi of misguiding people by making fake announcements, the Gurdaspur MP said people were paying the price of electing Modi as the Prime Minister of the country.

“Now, the time has come for a change and people will not forget the problems they faced under the BJP rule. People will respond in the Lok Sabha elections and the BJP will face a big defeat,” he said.
