Chandigarh, May 24

A woman and her paramour were sentenced to life imprisonment for murdering a Maloya resident by a local court on Thursday. The two convicts have been identified as Manoj and Maya, who will also pay a fine of Rs 50,000 each.

The victim, Ram Bilas, was strangled to death. This came to light during the postmortem after which Maya confessed to the crime.

On February 11, 2017, the police had booked the two under Sections 304 and 34 of the IPC. The complainant was Raju, Ram Bilas’s brother, who said his brother had informed him about his wife’s affair with a neighbour. The complainant in the case informed the police that on February 8, Ram Bilas’s son came running to him saying that his father had hanged himself.

According to Raju, Maya told him that they had a fight the previous night and he had committed suicide while she was sleeping. Raju had expressed his doubts that it could be a murder and had told the police that Maya and Manoj could be involved in it.

It was projected as a suicide to save themselves. The postmortem report confirmed it. The police interrogated both of them and arrested them after Maya’s confession.
