Mohali, May 18

To resolve the traffic problem being faced by commuters due to the construction of the Mohali-Kharar flyover from Balongi Bridge to Khanpur (Kharar), the district administration has directed to widen the road on both sides of the under-construction flyover within 10 days.

It is to be noted that the public is facing inconvenience due to the narrow road on both sides of the flyover.

With an aim to lessen people’s trouble and ensure a smooth traffic flow, Mohali Deputy commissioner Gurpreet Kaur Sapra presided over a high-level meeting at the District Administrative Complex. Officials of the Public Works Department, National Highway Authority of India, L&T, traffic police and other departments concerned were present during the meeting to discuss the issue.

Sapra said representatives of L&T Company, which had been hired for the construction of the Mohali-Kharar flyover, had been directed to complete the strengthening and widening of both sides of the road along the flyover within 10 days.

The Mohali Deputy Commissioner further said heavy vehicles for carrying material to facilitate the execution should only be used during night hours from 8 pm to 6 am as these vehicles caused traffic bottlenecks.

The officials have also been asked to shift the electricity poles on the road that cause hindrance in the traffic flow.

Local Superintendent of Police (Traffic) Tarun Ratan, who was also present on the occasion, said traffic policemen would be deployed in sufficient numbers at various points on the road to ensure a smooth flow of traffic during the construction work.
