Chandigarh, May 17

The Municipal Corporation on Thursday received over 330 complaints of water shortage from different parts of the city.

Officials said by the evening, 87 tankers were sent to different places to address at least 250 complaints. The maximum complaints were received from Sector 30. Residents of Sectors 21, 23, 27, 20, 22 and 25, and Mani Majra faced water shortage. At several areas, pressure was low enough for water to reach upper floors. Some areas got water supply for half an hour only.

“There has been acute shortage of water for the past three-four days. Water is supplied at very low pressure only for half an hour in the morning. We raised the issue with the SDO concerned, but he said they were getting lesser water supply from the main line. The tubewell here too had a problem,” said Rupinder Singh, a resident of Pipliwala in Mani Majra.

According to the MC, due to sudden breakdown of a pipeline near the Sector 39 water works, there was less pumping of raw water from Kajauli. Due to this, water was supplied in the city at low pressure on Thursday. Officials claimed the repairs were over by afternoon and the supply improved by the evening.
