Chandigarh, August 10

In the case of alleged harassment of a PUSU activist, the warden of hostel number 7 has submitted that the student has been involved in “subletting” of a hostel room.

As per the evidence submitted before the PU authorities, warden Dinesh Kumar has submitted that Varinder Kumar, a student of the Department of Community Education and Disability Studies, who was allotted room number 73 in block number 1, has been involved in subletting. The illegal occupant Ravinder Kumar had been paying the hostel fee.

According to Dinesh Kumar, he had got the room sealed after he found outsiders in Varinder Kumar’s room on August 8. He said he was informed about the outsiders in room number 73 of block number 1 by his senior assistant and added that when on August 8, the outsiders did not come out of the room, he himself went up to the room and got the room sealed.

Dinesh Kumar told Prof Emanual Nahar, Dean, Students Welfare, that on August 9, Varinder Kumar admitted that he had given the room to outsiders. When the warden refused to take back the show-cause notice issued to Varinder Kumar, the latter made a harassment complaint to the Secretary to VC.

Varinder Kumar alleged that the warden had made casteist remarks against him.

“The allegations are baseless and politically driven as he has recently taken over as the chairman of the PUSU party,” said Dinesh Kumar.
