Chandigarh, May 16

The threat of ransomware virus has left the city based companies and government agencies cautious who are getting the anti-virus virus loaded in their systems to protect the data.

The fear of falling prey to the virus has led many companies hire experts to look for a solution that keep their systems safe.

No complaint meanwhile has been received so far by the cyber crime investigation cell.

Inspector Harinder Sekhon, in charge the UT cyber crime investigation cell, said it was advised that any email that had attachments ‘.exe’ file should not be opened, that’s the only way to protect the system from the ransomware virus.

Sekhon further added that the virus starts with an unsolicited email, typically designed to trick the victim into clicking on an attachment or visiting a webpage. “The ransomware leverages flaws in the computer’s operating system to force it to run the ransomware code”, he said. TNS
