A 16-year-old girl, who was allegedly impregnated by her fiance, has given birth to a baby girl at the GMCH, Sector 32, Chandigarh.

The accused, Parmod, alias Sajan, a native of Bihar, was arrested by the police from Zirakpur in October last year. A case in this regard was registered under Sections 376 and 506 of the IPC at the Dera Bassi police station.

Khushpreet Kaur, the investigating officer of the case, told The Tribune that the police had got a production warrant of Parmod, who was currently lodged in the Patiala jail, for undergoing a DNA test to find out the paternity of the child, born to the 16-year-old girl on December 25.

She said blood samples of the victim and her baby had been taken and these would be sent to a forensic science laboratory where the DNA profiling would be done. The incident had come to light after the minor girl, who resides in a slum behind Gupta Colony in Dera Bassi, was taken to a hospital by her mother, a domestic help, in October last year after she complained of constant stomach ache. The girl was found to be over six months pregnant by the medical staff, who in turn informed the police.

The victim, in her statement to the police, had alleged that she was alone at home when Parmod came to Dera Bassi several months ago and made physical relations with her.
