Chandigarh, November 13

Nearly eight months after zonal drug licensing authority Dr Neha Shoree was shot in her office in Kharar allegedly for battle against the drug mafia, her war-veteran father and another petitioner today moved the Punjab and Haryana High Court alleging inaction in the matter.

Acting on the plea, the High Court directed the counsel for the state of Punjab, SS Cheema, to file a status report on the next date of hearing.

In the petition against the state of Punjab and other respondents, Capt Kailash Kumar Shoree (retd) and the other petitioner contended that the FIR in the matter was registered on March 29. But so far “no further action has been taken”.

Appearing before the Bench of Justice Harnaresh Singh Gill, their counsel submitted that the petitioners were senior citizens and had lost their daughter working as zonal licensing authority in the Food and Drugs Administration, Punjab. He added that the murder was a handiwork of drug mafia as she had been making efforts to stop the drug menace. Taking a note of the submissions, Justice Gill issued a notice of motion to the state and other respondents for December 20. — TNS
