Chandigarh, May 22

The Kayaking and Canoeing Association of Chandigarh today decided to shift the venue of the upcoming All-India Open Canoe Sprints Championship to Kapurthala, following inadequate water level in Sukhna Lake.

The championship was scheduled to be held at Sukhna Lake here from June 16 to 18, but due to low water level the organisers have shifted the venue to Sant Seechawall Water Sports Centre, Sultanpur Lodhi.

“The venue was shifted after a review by the panel of the experts today,” said Deepak Kumar Singh, secretary, Kayaking and Canoeing Association of Chandigarh.

It is for the first time that the local association is hosting the championship.
