Patiala, September 16

A day after unknown men damaged statue of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar, the Punjab Scheduled Castes Commission has sought a detailed report.

On Monday, the Dr Ambedkar Employees’ Federation and members of the community protested outside the mini secretariat and demanded arrest of the accused at the earliest.

It is pertinent to mention that the statue of Dr Bhim Rao Ambedkar was vandalised by miscreants in Rajpura on Saturday night. This led to an outrage among members of the Valmiki community. The Punjab Scheduled Castes Commission would look into the matter after the district administration sends its report. The police has been scrutinising CCTV footage to identify the culprits. “We will soon arrest the accused,” said the police.

“We came to know about the incident at 6 am on Sunday. The police reached the spot after people started gathering at the spot,” said Rajinder Kumar Tinku, a resident.

MLA Hardyal Singh Kamboj has already announced to get the statue installed. A three-layer life-size statue would be installed within 10 days.
