Chandigarh, October 16

After year on wait and five attempts, the Chandigarh Administration has finally selected a consultant for the Tribune Chowk flyover project today.

Sources said the Administration had selected Mumbai-based STUP Constructions which had quoted Rs 1.75 crore for the job.

Ajoy Kumar Sinha, Finance and Engineering Secretary, confirmed the development and said the Administration had sent selected consultant’s name for the approval of the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.

After getting the approval from the Ministry, the work will be allotted to the firm. Sources said besides Mumbai-based Stup Construction, two more companies were also in the fray, namely PPF Infra and Feed Back Consultants of Gurugram. After consistent efforts, the Engineering Department has finally succeeded in bringing down the cost of the consultancy to half of the amount the last selected firm quoted.

The Ministry of the Transport rejected the last tender citing to the exorbitant amount quoted by the company. The firm had quoted Rs 3.98 crore.

An officer of the Engineering Department said they were hopeful for getting the approval as the amount was almost half of the last firm quoted.

The Administration sought services of the consultant to prepare a plan to ease traffic on the roundabout. It has already prepared an estimate of Rs 300 crore for the project.

The Ministry of Road Transport and Highways gave nod to the Chandigarh Administration to engage a consultant for preparing a detailed project report in December 2016. The project is to be started from next year.
