Chandigarh, June 15

Two new IAS officers of the Arunachal Pradesh, Goa and Mizoram Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre will join the Chandigarh Administration. With this, the UT will be able to fill a few senior posts which have been lying vacant for long.

The IAS officers are 2005-batch Ajay Kumar Singhla and 2008-batch Sanjay Kumar Jha. While Singhla was serving in Andaman and Nicobar, Jha was posted in Delhi.

An order with immediate effect was issued by the Union Ministry of Home Affairs. With key posts such as Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB) chairman and Secretary Personnel lying vacant, the UT Administration was forced to burden the existing officers with multiple charges, which affected the working of various departments.

While as per the Punjab Reorganisation Act, 1966, the vacancies of officers in the Chandigarh Administration are supposed to be filled in the ratio of 60:40 from Punjab and Haryana, respectively, officers from the AGMUT cadre are also serving in the UT.
