UP boys, WB girls triumph

Uttar Pradesh boys rallied to beat Himachal Pradesh, while West Bengal girls overcame Haryana to win the respective titles on the concluding day of the 45th Junior National Volleyball Championship at Panjab University here on Tuesday. 

In the final, Uttar Pradesh boys lost the opening game 25-27, but the side recovered well to win the next three games 25-15 25-17 25-18 to beat Himachal Pradesh and lay their hand on the glittering trophy.

Tamil Nadu survived a close battle against Gujarat to finish third in the championship.

Tamil Nadu won the opening game 25-21, but Gujarat lads took the lead with 25-22 25-20 win in the next two games. Tamil Nadu, though, kept their nerve and restored the parity with a 25-22 win in the fourth set before sealing the decider 15-9 to claim the third spot. 

In the girls’ final, West Bengal took a 2-0 lead with 25-16 25-12 win in the first two games. Haryana reduced the deficit with a 25-20 win in the third game, but West Bengal seized the fourth game 25-17 to claim the title.

Tamil Nadu girls, like their boys’ team, finished third after a hard-fought win against Maharashtra. 

Tamil Nadu lost first two games 17-25 23-25, but launched a massive come back to win the next three games 25-23 25-10 15-3 to bag the third position.
