Union Minister Sushma Swaraj presented photo of student days

CHANDIGARH: Students of the Department of Hindi, Panjab University, along with its chairperson Dr Gurmeet Singh, today met Sushma Swaraj, Union Minister of External Affairs, to present a nearly 50-year-old photograph of Swaraj from her student days, when she participated and won the KK Grover and AC Bali Declamation Competition, an annual feature of the university.

Students of the Department of Hindi, Panjab University, along with its chairperson Dr Gurmeet Singh, today met Sushma Swaraj, Union Minister of External Affairs, to present a nearly 50-year-old photograph of Swaraj from her student days, when she participated and won the KK Grover and AC Bali Declamation Competition, an annual feature of the university.

The students said Swaraj felt nostalgic after looking at the picture.

Dr Gurmeet Singh, chairperson of the Hindi Department, said, “Students found many old and rare photographs during a recent cleaning drive at the department library. Swaraj’s photograph was also found during this exercise and the department decided to restore it, get it framed and present it to her. The department then got in touch with the office of the minister and got an opportunity to personally meet her and present the picture.”

The delegation of students included research scholars Kewal Kumar, Shakuntala, Ram Singh Yadav. Jyotsana and Ankita, students of MA, were also part of the delegation.
