Unending privacy issues

Right to privacy was declared an intrinsic part of the right to life by the Supreme Court, still the government does not take any credible steps to check the breach of privacy by social media sites like Facebook. Every day, there is a news story related to violation of privacy law by Facebook. This social media giant continues to share the personal details of its users with private firms. It is high time the Indian parliament passes the Draft Data Protection Bill. Otherwise, the scenario will turn topsy-turvy.

Bad roads

The Supreme Court has taken a wonderful decision that the authorities concerned will compensate the families of those who lose their lives due to bad roads in the country. Road conditions are not improving with the increasing number of vehicles. The material used in the construction of roads is also of substandard quality. In the developed countries, contractors give 10-year warranty on roads constructed. But in India, roads start washing away with the first flush of rains.

Lack of playground

With no proper space allotted, children play football in a park of Sector 46-C, Chandigarh. However, residents don't go to parks for basking in the sun or walking fearing getting hit by a ball. Even window panes of nearby houses and cars parked are broken when kids play cricket. The MC has failed to provide with them playground.

Mindless dumping of debris

The accompanying picture was clicked outside the Civil Dispensary in Sector 8, Panchkula. Ironically, the Panchkula MC, which has currently launched “Keep Panchkula Clean” drive, has remained oblivious to its onerous responsibility to clear such “mindless dumping” of debris, despite being fully aware of the real culprits. One wonders whether all these nice-looking drives are meant for some self-serving publicity only.  SK Gupta, Panchkula
