UIET signs MoU for extensor glove; 37 prototypes exhibited

The University Institute of Engineering Technology (UIET), Panjab University (PU), hosted an exhibition of 37 medical instruments prototypes which have been developed by its Design Innovation Centre (DIC) and signed a MoU with CMD Tynore Orthotics Private Ltd for one of the prototypes named extensor glove.

University Vice-Chancellor Prof Arun Kumar Grover chaired the Project Advisory Committee of the UIET. Industry members, PGIMER and GMCH, Sector 32, have been involved in the development of prototypes.

PJ Singh, CMD Tynore Orthotics Pvt Ltd, announced that the industry could sponsor an innovation design contest at the UIET, in collaboration with the DIC, where students from other institutes could also showcase their prototypes and the award money can be up to Rs 1 lakh.

Some of the prototypes developed are in use at the PGI, GMCH-32, Fortis Mohali and Dr Harbans Singh Judge Institute of Dental Sciences, PU.

Completed projects

Besides the software for the automated creation of clear dental aligner, software for maxillofacial, craniofacial and oral reconstructions for trauma or cancer or accidental cases in which face and skull have been damaged, have been developed. An air quality monitoring device, water surface vehicle for checking the quality of water bodies, robots for cleaning the floor and cutting the grass and software for automated designing of foot orthotics for patients to support their feet having irregularly formed foot have been designed.
