Mohali, March 13

A parked SUV caught fire in Sector 67 here today. Sources said the incident took place around 12 noon when a Safari car parked in the market’s parking caught fire.

Visitors to the market raised an alarm. According to sources, a security guard of a private bank in the market brought a fire extinguisher from the bank and attempted to douse the fire. A fire tender was rushed to the spot, but the fire had been brought under control by then.

According to sources, the car owner, Sandeep Singh, parked his vehicle in the parking lot and went to a gym. After over half an hour, some smoke started coming out of the car and within minutes, it caught fire.

The sources said the cause of the fire could be a ‘short-circuit’. However, it could not be confirmed.

A Ford car, which was a case property, parked at the Kharar City police station, caught fire. The police said a fire tender was called in, following which the fire was brought under control. The police said they were investigating as to how it caught fire. — TNS
