A 17-year-old girl got injured after members of two families residing at Daria village clashed following an altercation over filling water from a tap. The girl accidentally received an injury with a sickle during the scuffle.

The police said both families, immediate neighbours, had an altercation over filling water on Thursday.

Ram Sharma, along with his two minor sons, raised the issue again on Friday morning and entered into an altercation with their neighbour Sita Devi and her minor son and minor daughter.

The situation turned ugly when both families clashed. In the meanwhile, Sita Devi got a sickle from her house to threaten her neighbours.

A police official said Sita Devi’s daughter and son were trying to stop her when the sickle accidentally hit the girl on her back. The police were informed after which the injured girl was rushed to the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Sector 32. She was later discharged after treatment.

The police said Ram Sharma had been arrested under preventive measures for instigating the fight. “The fight could have been avoided had he acted wisely,” said a police official. The matter is under investigation at the Daria police post.
