Two contractors booked for preparing fake certificates

Mohali, January 14

The Mohali police have booked two contractors for preparing fake performance certificates to get them enlisted in the Department of Rural Development and Panchayat, Punjab, in the department’s Class 1 contractors list here. The accused have been identified as Surjit Singh and Baljit Singh.

Giving details, Sub-Inspector Rajiv Kumar, SHO of the Phase 8 police station, said both contractors first gave their fake performance certificates in which it was shown that they had completed the project worth Rs 75 lakh each.

“This way, they got themselves enlisted in the Class A contractors’ list of the department and got a contract at Kolyawaali village at Muktsar. From the contractor, they earned a profit of Rs 21,964,” said the SHO.

A case under Sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471 and 120B of the IPC has been registered against the duo on the complaint of executive engineer of the Rural Development Department. — TNS
