Two booked under prevention of human smuggling Act

PATIALA:The police have registered a case against two persons under the Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act after the complainant in the case stated that the accused had duped her of Rs 6 lakh on pretext of sending her abroad.

The police have registered a case against two persons under the Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act after the complainant in the case stated that the accused had duped her of Rs 6 lakh on pretext of sending her abroad.

The police said according to Paramjeet Kaur, a resident of Haji Majra in Passiana, accused Harpreet Singh and Surinder Kumar, both from Mansa, offered to send her to the USA through Turkey. She said the accused took Rs 6 lakh from her, but did not send her abroad nor return the money. The victim had lodged a complaint in February this year after which the matter was investigated. 

The police registered a case against Harpreet Singh and Surinder Kumar under Sections 420 (Cheating and dishonesty) and 120-B (Party to a criminal conspiracy), IPC, and Section 13 of the Punjab Prevention of Human Smuggling Act at the Passiana police station here on Wednesday. “The accused have yet to be arrested,” said the police.
