Chandigarh: Krishan Hooda won both singles and doubles titles at the AITA National Series Tennis Tournament in Chennai on Saturday. Top seed Hooda rallied from a set down to beat second seed Karan Singh 4-6 7-6(5) 7-5 in the boys’ U-18 final and then combined with Nitin Jaipal Singh to outplay Samar and Karan Singh 6-4 7-5 in the doubles title clash. Cricket trials postponed  

Chandigarh: The trials to select players for free coaching at the Livewire Coaching Centre have been postponed till July 21, the organisers said here on Saturday. The trials were earlier scheduled to be held on July 14. "The trials will now be held on July 21 at Divya Public School, Sector 44," said the organisers, adding that the trials will start at 7.30 am. Aashna finishes 3rd in Bengaluru

Chandigarh: Aashna Bagri, a student of Sacred Heart School, Sector 26, has finished third in the Asian Dance Championship at the Indian International Dance Congress held in Bengaluru. Last year, the 16-year-old had topped the Salsa Amateur solo category in the Asia Pacific Championship held in Bangkok. TNS

Basketball meet from July 17

Chandigarh: The Chandigarh Basketball Association will organise the Sub-Junior Basketball Championship for boys and girls from July 17-21 at the Sector 42 indoor courts. Players born on or after January 1, 2006, will be eligible to participate in the competition, the sports body said here on Saturday. The interested teams need to register for the tournament before July 16. TNS

Kaavya shines in Jaipur

Chandigarh: Kaavya Sawhney has won the doubles title at the AITA Women’s Tennis Tournament, which concluded in Jaipur on Friday. The Chandigarh Academy for Rural Tennis trainee, in company of Aarthi, registered a 6-2 7-5 win over Vanshika Chaudhary and Sanskrithi in the title clash. TNS
