A tutor residing in Chandigarh has been booked for allegedly blackmailing and demanding extortion money from the father of one of his former girl students. The accused also threatened him of maligning his daughter’s reputation and killing the family.

Raghav, a resident of Sector 50, has been booked for extortion and criminal intimidation on the complaint of the girl’s father, a resident of Sector 70.

The police said the complainant’s daughter now lives abroad but once took tuition from the accused. As per the complaint, the accused had threatened his former student’s father that he knew secrets about his daughter, which, if revealed, could harm her image.

In his complaint, the 48-year-old stated that he has a son and a daughter. He had financially helped Raghav on a number of occasions. However, for the last few days, the accused had started blackmailing him and demanded a heavy amount.

The complainant told the police that on Friday, the accused came to their house and demanded the said amount. When he refused, the accused threatened him with killing his family.

A case has been registered at the Mataur police station. The SHO said they were looking into the matter and yet to arrest the accused.
