Ambala, November 29

In a classic case of cheating, a trucker took away a consignment of tyres worth over Rs 10 lakh in a truck with fake number plate and failed to deliver it in Srinagar, the police said here today.

Acting swiftly on the complaint of a local tyre dealer Silk Ram, the district police arrested the suspect trucker, Charanjit Singh, alias Mannu, a resident of Jalandhar (Punjab).

In his police complaint, Ram had reported that on November 22 the trucker approached him as a representative of a local transport company for taking the consignment of tyres worth Rs 10.23 lakh, which the complainant had booked for delivering in Srinagar on November 13.

“The trucker took away the consignment, but failed to deliver it at the destination. Following this I inquired about him from the transport company from where I learnt that the trucker duped me by taking away the consignment in a truck with fake number plate,” the complainant stated.

The trucker was arrested and produced before a local court, which remanded him to three-day police custody, officials said while adding that hunt was on to nab his accomplices involved in the case.
