A member of the local transgender group was allegedly attacked by members of another group from Patiala in front of the Sadar police station here this morning.

Group members took the injured, Reshma, to the Civil Hospital.

According to information, the incident took place near the gate of the Sadar police station when a transgender group from Patiala led by Simmi suddenly attacked the local group, which was going from shop to shop seeking alms in view of Diwali festival.

Simmi had attacked Reshma on her head and face causing grievous injuries. After receiving information, other members of the local group immediately reached the spot. The Simmi group, fearing backlash from the local transgender group, eloped from the spot.

It is pertinent to mention here that earlier too, the Simmi-led transgender group from Patiala had attacked the local group and a case had already been registered in this regard at the Kotwali police station.

Shekhar Mahant, head of the local transgender group, while talking to the media, said Simmi was a fake transgender as he was married and had two children. He said 8 to 10 persons armed with sharp weapons arrived near the police station and attacked Reshma when they questioned as to why they were moving in their area.

He said they had been living in the town for the past five decades and making both ends meet by receiving alms from people during festive seasons. She alleged policemen present at the site of the incident remained a mute spectator.

After receiving information, Investigation Officer ASI Manmohan Singh of Kotwali police station reached the Civil Hospital and recorded the statement of Reshma. Manmohan said they had receiving a medico-legal report and had started investigations in the case.
