With the authorities concerned having failed to provide any solution so far, commuters continue to suffer following heavy traffic congestions every now and then at the Landran T-point here.
Long jams on all roads, connecting with the Landran T-point, can be seen at any given point of time. The reason behind frequent traffic jams is the Mohali-Chunni road, which makes two T-points on the Kharar-Banur road, within a distance of around 25 metres at the spot. As a result, the spot witnesses huge traffic chaos all the time.
The authorities had made several plans for redressing the traffic chaos at the spot, but nothing had been done till now except installing traffic lights at both the T-points, said Paramjit Kaur, a resident of Landran village.
Earlier, the Mohali administration had planned to construct a flyover on the road to avoid crossing of vehicles here. Afterwards the authorities had planned to construct proper crossing of both the roads by removing the ‘Z-junction’ to smoothen the flow of traffic here. Both the plans are yet see the light of the day.
Around a couple of years ago, some owners were also given notices by the authorities for acquiring their land, but after that no development took place.
When contacted regarding the issue, Mohali Deputy Commissioner (DC) Gurpreet Kaur Sapra claimed that the work of redesigning crossing of both the roads could not take off due to some problems in acquisition of land at the spot.
“Now, the government has decided to acquire the required land for the purpose. I had a meeting with the Minister of Punjab Housing and Urban Development in this regard. He assured to sanction Rs 20 crore for the purpose,” said the DC.
The DC also added that regular meetings were on with the authorities of the PWD&BR, which would handle the redesigning job. When asked about the plan of constructing flyover or elevated road on the spot, which lies on the Kharar-Banur stretch, the DC said it would also be undertaken later.
