Top seed Rishi Reddy blanked Parmeet Singh Deol 9-0 to move into the third round of the men’s singles qualifiers on the opening day of The Tribune State Tennis Championship at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10, here today.

Second seed Neeraj Yashpaul registered a 9-3 win over Tushar Bali, while ninth seed Mohit Bhardwaj registered a 9-4 win over Savneet Singh in the second round of the qualifiers. Fourth seed Deepinder Singh Bains downed Yogank Bhardwaj 9-3. 

CLTA trainees Krishan Hooda and Uddayvir Singh also won their respective second round qualifying matches. While Hooda prevailed 9-8(8) over 12th seed Nitin Jaipal Singh, Uddayvir drubbed Ritesh Balmiki 9-2. 

Parth Sharma edged out Nishank Thakur 9-1 and Torus Rawat humbled Manjot Singh 9-6. Amit Bzad ousted Sandeep Singh Guru 9-2 to move into the next round of the qualifiers. 

Bunty advances 

In the women’s singles competition, top seed Bunty Chongtham downed Aditi Singh 9-5 in the opening round of the qualifiers. Pawandeep Kaur shunted out Preeti Koli 9-3, while Ankita Hoon stunned third seed Apurva Sheoran 9-2.

Nehel Sahini upset fourth seed Damini Hoon 9-1. Seventh seed Geetham Mishra ousted Jyotsana Yadav 9-3, while Simran Pritam registered a 9-2 win over Ananya Yadav. Prarthana Dwivedi dumped Anusha Varma 9-1. 

Jashandeep in Rd 2

In The Tribune CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) Tennis Tournament, Punjab’s Jashandeep Singh overcame state-mate Adik Sharma 9-8(3) in the first round of the qualifiers. 

Chandigarh’s Samarpit Bhatia defeated Shreshth Garg of Punjab 9-5, while Haryana’s Yajat Khanna trounced Punjab’s Akshit Ratti 9-1. Madhav Aggarwal, also from Chandigarh, downed Punjab’s Anuj A Teshildar 9-3. 

Another city lad, Arpit Singh, prevailed 9-3 over Pravar Sharma of Punjab in the opening round.
