Zirakpur, August 13

Three more dengue cases were reported from the city on Monday, taking the tally to seven.

Favourable conditions for the breeding of mosquitoes have become a cause of concern not only for residents but also for the district Health Department authorities.

As per information provided by the Health Department, three patients, including five-year-old Ansh and his eight year-old sister Samriti of Sigma City, Zirakpur, were found to be afflicted with the virus.

Beside, Hari Krishan (50), a resident of Bhabat village, also tested positive for dengue.

Though all of them have been discharged from the hospital, the authorities were taking no chance, keeping in view the deadly nature of dengue fever.

According to sources, Ansh and his sister Samriti started showing symptoms on August 4 and they had undergone a test at a private lab where the platelets count of both were found to be low.

Family members got them admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh, on August 7.

The report of their blood samples confirmed that they were suffering from dengue, said the sources.

Similarly, Hari Krishan was admitted to Government Medical College and Hospital, Sector 32, Chandigarh on August 8.

Officials said the Health Department had already identified vulnerable areas in the town and measures were being taken.

The officials added that health teams were regularly making residents aware of the vector-borne diseases to prevent the breeding of mosquitoes.

Sources in the distrcit Health Department said there was no need to panic as the number of dengue cases this year was comparatively less than the last year.
