Three days on, man arrested for theft

CHANDIGARH:Three days after a burglary was reported from a house in Sector 39 from where jewellery worth several lakhs and cash were stolen, the UT police have arrested the thief and recovered the stolen items.

Three days after a burglary was reported from a house in Sector 39 from where jewellery worth several lakhs and cash were stolen, the UT police have arrested the thief and recovered the stolen items. 

The suspect has been identified as Mahesh Kumar (42), a resident of Baltana, Zirakpur.

The theft was reported from the house on January 14. The suspect had stolen a briefcase containing Rs 60,000, a gold necklace, earrings, a silver ring and an anklet. 

A case was registered at the Sector 39 police station. The police said the suspect was arrested from a naka laid in Sector 37.

The suspect earlier used to work as a security guard. However, at present, he was unemployed and committed the theft. 

The police said the suspect was a drug addict and had a criminal past. He was produced before a court today, which remanded him in judicial custody. — TNS
