Three-day folklore festival concludes at Punjab Kala Bhawan

The three-day Punjabi folklore music and dance festival ‘Chahu Kuntan Da Mela’ organised by Punjab Sangeet Natak Akademi working under the aegis of Punjab Arts Council concluded at Punjab Kala Bhawan here today. The festival was inaugurated by PAC chairman, Dr Surjit Patar, and PSNA president Kewal Dhaliwal on last Saturday.

The festival showcased various folklore music and dance genres of Majha, Malwa, Doaba and Puaad regions of Punjab. The modern city audience, especially youngsters, relished duet singing, jhoomar, giddha, malwai giddha, bhangra, luddi, sammi and nachaar dances, besides naqqals bhand, been baja, spera been vadan, algoza, toomba, dhadd sarangi gayaki, puaadhi jalsa and more of which many forms are on the verge of extinction.

Well-known folk artistes, who regaled audience, include Amarjit Gurdaspuri, Mohini and Manpal Raseela, Charan Singh Dyalpuri, Paramjit Padda, Harminder Jalal and others.
