For the first time, five effigies will be consigned to flames during Dasehra at Parade Ground in Sector 5, Panchkula, on October 19.

Nowhere in India, apart from effigies of Ravana, Meghnada and Kumbhakarna, any additional effigy is burnt. The two extra effigies here will denote sanitation and the crime against women.

The chairman of the Shri Krishna Lila Ramlila Dramatic Club, Shyam Lal Bansal, and general secretary Kusum Kumar Gupta said a decision in this regard was taken recently. He said the additional effigies would highlight the crime against women and create awareness about sanitation.

Bansal said every care had been taken while preparing the effigies as per the Hindu tradition and no other item, except bamboo sticks, had been used. He said special fireworks would be used this time.

The Dasehra festivities at Parade Ground will be organised by the Shri Krishna Lila Ramlila Dramatic Club and the management committee of Shri Ram Temple, Sector 2, Panchkula.
