Chandigarh, September 3

Thieves continue to target government houses in Sector 22 during the daytime as three more houses were burgled this afternoon.

Thieves struck at house numbers 546, 547 and 548 in Sector 22 and decamped with taps. Raj Verma, who is an employee at the Punjab and Haryana High Court, said he got a call from his neighbour about the theft of taps from the houses.

“I reached home and found that someone entered my house from the backyard and stole the taps. Probably, this is the work of some drug addicts as nothing else was stolen,” he said. Taps from two other houses were also stolen.

The police were informed about the incident following which they reached the spot and initiated investigations.

Thefts at government houses in Sector 22 are reported frequently. Around two weeks ago, taps, fans, geysers and other valuables were stolen from at least six houses in this sector.

Residents claimed the miscreants target government houses in the afternoon as they know that everyone would be out for work.

“Police patrolling should be intensified during the daytime to put a brake on increasing theft incidents in Sector 22,” said a local resident.
