Chandigarh, February 11
Unidentified miscreants made off with a donation box from a gurdwara at the Industrial Area, Phase II, on the intervening night of February 10 and 11. The incident was caught on CCTV cameras installed at the gurdwara.
The miscreants entered the gurdwara around 2.30 am and turned off the lights. They then lifted the donation box lying inside and escaped with it. Rajinder Singh, a member of the gurdwara management, said the thieves first took the donation box to a nearby market where they tried to break it with bricks. “The watchman saw them and raised the alarm after which the thieves escaped from there on an Activa scooter. However, they returned a few minutes later and threatened the watchman with a knife. The thieves then took the donation box on the scooter,” he said. An investigation has been initiated into the matter at the Sector 31 police station.
Empty box found near Kali Bari
Sources said the donation box was later found near the Kali Bari light point near the Industrial Area. The thieves had broken the box and stolen the money.
