Ambala: Two thieves struck at The Tribune sub-office in Ambala Cantonment in the wee hours of Thursday. Though the thieves managed to break open some locks, they could not steal anything from the office. The thieves entered a room from the backyard of the office around 4 am. They took away a stabiliser from the room. However, they left it on the roof after some people noticed them. A case has been registered under Sections 380 and 457 of the IPC. TNS

MP opens community centre

Chandigarh: City MP Kirron Kher inaugurated a community centre in Sector 33 here on Thursday in the presence of Mayor Davesh Moudgil, area councillor Rajesh Gupta, Chief Engineer Manoj Bansal and prominent persons of the area. Kher said it would be the best community centre in the city and would cater to the needs of the area residents. She asked the ward residents to maintain the community centre through community participation. TNS

Man booked in fraud case

Kharar: The police have registered a case under Sections 406 and 420 of the IPC against Ravi Garg for allegedly cheating Surinder Singh, a resident of Mohali, to the tune of Rs 17 lakh in the name of selling a flat to him. The complainant told the police that he had paid Rs 17,05,000 for purchasing a flat in Sante Majra village and the agreement was signed in 2014. The suspect neither delivered the flat nor refunded the money to Surinder. The complainant sent a complaint to the SSP on September 4, 2018, following which a case was registered. OC

Bootlegger arrested

Lalru: The police here on Thursday arrested a bootlegger and recovered 9 boxes of illicit liquor from him. The suspect has been identified as Rajinder Singh Saini, a resident of Lalru. According to the police, Saini was arrested following a tip-off at a naka laid near Lalru. The police recovered 9 boxes of illicit liquor from his possession at the naka. Meanwhile, a case under the Excise Act has been registered against him at the Lalru police station. The police produced him in the court, which remanded him in judicial custody. OC
