Chandigarh, December 11

A local court has denied bail to teacher recruitment scam accused Shailesh Kumar.

Kumar was arrested by the police on October 13 in connection with the TGT scam.

Having faced flak for failing to file a chargesheet in the JBT scam within 90 days, the UT police had re-arrested Shiv Bahadur and Shailesh Kumar on October 13 in the TGT scam. The two were earlier granted default bail as the chargesheet against them was not presented in time.

On July 29 last year, the Chandigarh police had registered an FIR against an alleged leak of question papers of teacher recruitment exams held in January and February last year. As many as 1,150 junior basic training (JBT), trained graduate teachers (TGTs) and nursery training teachers (NTTs) were to be recruited via these exams held at Panjab University.

The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) had unearthed the scam with the arrest of Dinesh Yadav and had written to the Chandigarh Education Secretary and the Inspector General of Police to register a case in this regard. In the FIR, the VB had stated that at least 19 candidates had an access to the leaked question paper. —TNS
