A teenager allegedly stabbed his friend to death after a spat over some petty issue while taking alcohol at Mohali village here last night.

The victim, identified as Vishal (18), alias Tipu, a resident of Badmajra village, and the suspect, Vikas (19), alias Goli, were having drinks at a rented accommodation of Kali, who was also present there around 10.30 pm along with another person. Goli allegedly stabbed Tipu multiple times following a spat.

The police arrested Goli a few hours after the crime from a public park in the area. During his interrogation, the suspect confessed before the police that he stabbed Tipu with a knife, which he had procured from a market at Naina Devi, Himachal Pradesh, around four months ago.

According to Inspector Lakhwinder Singh, SHO, Phase 1 police station, all four persons, who were having drinks together last night, were involved in petty crimes earlier. “While they were taking liquor at Kali’s room yesterday, some spat ensued between Tipu and Goli over a petty issue, following which the latter stabbed the former in his stomach.

Tipu was immediately taken to the Civil Hospital at Phase 6 where doctors declared him brought dead,” said the Station House Officer.

Goli, a resident of Badmajra village in Mohali, is said to be a school dropout. “Both the accused and the victim were working as caterers,” said the Station House Officer.

He added that after the incident, the remaining three youths, including Goli, wiped the floor to remove blood stains.

The police are yet to recover the knife used in the crime.

A case of murder has been registered against Goli at the Phase 1 police station.

Goli was produced before a local court today, which remanded him to one-day police custody.
