To express solidarity with a JBT teacher of Government Senior Secondary School, Sector 27, who was assaulted by a Class XII boy, teachers under the banner of the Government Teachers Union (GTU) either wore black dresses or wear black badges.
They are upset over inaction by the police as no FIR has been registered against the boy so far. The accused is below 18 years. Presently, he has been suspended.
“We appeal to the Education Department to take strict action against the student as the security of teachers is at stak. They also appealed the Education Department to arrange security measures in the schools like proper boundary walls, wiring and grills, security guards in proper uniform,” said the union members.
The union members also appealed to the chairman of the Chandigarh Commission of Protection for Child Rights, Harjinder Kaur, to arrange for proper counselling and rehabilitation of such violent student.
Another teachers’ union has called for a meeting of all cadres of teachers at Masjid Ground, Sector 20, to decide on further course of action on Tuesday.

The school has suspended the student.
The police have not registered any FIR against the student. “There will be no FIR. We will send a report to the Juvenile Justice Board regarding this incident on Tuesday,” said Station House Officer of the Sector 26 police station Inspector Jaspal Bhullar.
“There has been no apology from student or his father so far. We have sent the fact finding report as well as inquiry has also been conducted. The education department has to decide the final action against the student,” said Sunita Singh, principal, GSSS-27.
The inquiry in this case was conducted by principal of Sector 22-based government school and headmaster of Sector 28-based school.
“We will decide on Tuesday,” said Rubinderjit Singh, Director, School Education.
Meanwhile, the victim, Neelam Sharma, attended the school today. “She is upset. Even teachers are in fear,” said Sunita Singh.
