Talvinder’s ton helps Chandigarh gain commanding position

A fine century by Talvinder Singh (112) helped Chandigarh post 315 runs against Amritsar on the first day of their two-day match in the Punjab Inter-District U-23 Cricket Championship at Gandhi Grounds in Amritsar today. 

After winning the toss, Chandigarh openers Shivam Bhambri and Arjit Pannu failed to get the desired start. The side lost their first wicket for 11, when Pannu (6) was caught by Salil Arora off Varun Pal. His departure brought Jasnoor Singh to the crease but the partnership only lasted for 24 runs as Bhambri (25 off 32 balls with five boundaries) was caught by Abhishek off Sumit Sharma. Thereafter, Jasnoor and Talvinder Singh steadied the innings and put the side on road to recovery. 

The duo raised 181 runs for the third wicket. While Talvinder completed his century, Jasnoor (38 off 139 balls with three boundaries) was caught by Rohit Kumar off Abhinav Sharma. Talvinder soon followed suit after completing 112 off 159 balls, which included 17 boundaries and a six. 

He was caught by Abhishek off Pal, just when Chandigarh touched the 200-run mark. Next in, Jagmeet Singh Bhullar and Arpit Pannu ended the day in style with another fruitful partnership of 115 runs. 

Jagmeet Bhullar (80 off 113 balls with 11 boundaries and a six) and Arpit Pannu (42 off 85 balls with two boundaries) remain unbeaten to close the day at 315/4. 

For Amritsar, Pal claimed 2/58 while Abhinav Sharma (1/55) and Sumit Sharma (1/31) claimed one wicket each

Shubman, Abhijeet score centuries for Mohali

Shubham Gill (133) and Abhijeet Garg (113) came together to put up a 189-run stand for the second wicket against Muktsar at the IS Bindra PCA Stadium. 

Mohali declared their innings on 311/2, while Muktsar were at 38/1 in reply at the end of the first day. Mohali opened with Subeer Hayer and Garg. 

The opening partnership was broken on 86, when Hayer was caught by Amandeep Singh off Harjot Singh after scoring 52 off 45 balls, which included seven boundaries and three sixes. 

Thereafter, Garg was joined by Gill and the duo started smashing the Muktsar attack. Both batsmen completed their century. The partnership was broken by Ravinder Singh after he claimed Gill (133 off 98 balls with 11 boundaries and six sixes). After his departure, Garg (113 off 122, studded with 10 boundaries and one six) and Ramandeep Singh (6) pushed the total to 311 before Mohali declared their innings. 

Harjot and Ravinder claimed a wicket each. In reply, Muktsar closed the first day’s play on 38/1. Roopkamal Singh (14) fell to Nukhil Kohli, while Gagandeep (7) stayed unbeaten.

Patiala score 166 on Day-1

After a delayed start following heavy rain, Patiala scored 166/5 on Day 1 against hosts Jalandhar at Burlton Park. 

Patiala lost their opening wicket on 21 runs, when Mandeep Inder Bawa (6) was claimed by Manpreet Bhullar. The other opener, Sanvir Singh, was joined by Prabjot Singh and the duo raised 76 runs for the second wicket to push the total to 97 runs. Prabjot (27 off 77 with one boundary) was cleaned up by Prerit Dutta. Sanvir Singh (67 off 134 balls, including nine boundaries) was the next to go after being caught by Bhullar off Rishab Bhagat. 

Anmolpreet Singh (23) and Hirdhay Pal Singh (9) took the team to 148 runs, while Anmol Malhotra (11) and Karan Kaila (3) remained unbeaten to close the opening day of the two-day match at 166/5. Bhullar (2/48) was the pick of the bowlers while Bhagat (1/23), Gourav Choudhary (1/15) and Dutta (1/35) took one wicket each.

Nikhil's ton helps Ludhiana            

Riding high on Nikhil Choudhary’s 143, visitors Ludhiana posted a mammoth total of 382 runs before getting all out in 82 overs at Government College, Hoshiarpur. The opening partnership between Jaish Jain and Jaskaran gathered 46 runs before Jaskaran (21 off 33 balls) was claimed by Ashish Ghai. 

The pacer was again in the thick of the things after he claimed Jain (32 off 58 balls) and Kashish Paneja (45 off 96 balls, including four boundaries and a six). 

Thereafter Choudhary came to the rescue of the team and posted a stunning 143 off 148 balls, which included 10 boundaries and three sixes.

He was ably supported by Sandeep Singh (38), Harnoor Singh (19) and Kabir Grewal (18). Karan Chawla (4/104) and Ashish Ghai (4/117) were the pick of the bowlers, while Paramjot Singh claimed 2/32.
