Chandigarh, August 11

In a shocking incident, a table light installed at the operation theatre No. 4 at the PGI got dislodged and hit a junior resident doctor on the head.

The PGI authorities maintained that the snag had been fixed. Sources said a probe had also been marked into the matter after it was learnt that the doctors had previously complained about the dilapidated condition of the table light.

The incident took place on Wednesday night at around 9 pm when doctors were reportedly performing an operation.

While they were lowering the table light, it got dislodged and hit a junior woman doctor on her head.

Fortunately, the light did not fall on the patient and kept hanging with a power cable. Later, the doctors, with the help of the operation theatre technician, tied the table light with a cloth to perform the operation.

Staff from the Engineering Department was told about the incident, but the snag could not be rectified. The light was fixed today again.

Dr TD Yadav, president of the Faculty Association, said he was not aware of the issue. “It is unfortunate. Adequate steps need to be taken to avoid such incidents in future. There is no scope of such errors while performing operations,” said Dr TD Yadav.

Sources said in July doctors had complained that due to heavy rain, water had started leaking in some operation theatres. A doctors said the authorities were not bothered to take corrective measures, which was leading to such freak incidents. — TNS
