A day after it was found that patients who were down with swine flu had a travel history, the UT Heath Department has started taking preventive measures and advising people to rush to hospital in case of swine flu-like symptoms.

Dr Rakesh Kashyap, Director, Health Services, Chandigarh, confirmed that the 49-year-old Dhaba owner had visited Mukerian and Pathankot before being diagnosed with swine flu while the six-month-old girl was taken to Dagshai by her parents.

Dr Kashyap said, “We cannot seal the borders and create panic. Being a capital of two states, people from far-flung areas visit Chandigarh. We can only take preventive and precautionary measures.”

In the meantime, Government Multi-Speciality Hospital (GMSH), Sector 16, Chandigarh, has established a swine flu ward to deal with any eventuality.

Dr G Dewan, officiating Medical Superintendent, Government Multi-Speciality Hospital-16, said, “We are prepared and converted a section of the emergency ward to accommodate swine flu patients.”
