The Municipal Corporation today organised “Swachh Ward Campaign” in Ward No. 5 under “Chandigarh Banega Swachhata Mein No. 1”.

Sanjay Kumar Jha, Commissioner, Municipal Corporation, launched the campaign at the community centre, Milk Colony, Dhanas, in the presence of Sheela Devi, area councillor, and office-bearers of the Resident Welfare Associations and the Market Welfare Associations of the ward.

Addressing the stakeholders, the MC commissioner said the campaign aimed at achieving the goals of cleanliness and 100 per cent solid waste management across the city. He said, “If we want to see our households, surroundings, parks, institutions and workplaces clean, we will have to develop a habit to follow the scientific methods of solid waste management and generate less garbage at our households and in a segregated form so that it can be collected and processed scientifically.”

Jha expressed a deep concern over the use of plastic bags, bottles and disposable material. He said, “We all have to develop a habit to stop use of plastic-made items to save environment and segregate dry and wet waste at source.”

On the occasion, local residents raised some issues, including problem of cow dung, provision of railing in parks and streetlights etc. The MC chief assured them of early solution to the problems.
