Svamin, Navya off to winning start

CHANDIGARH: Top seed Svamin Sharma registered a 9-7 win over Lokesh Pun to move into the final qualifying round of the boys’ U-18 category on the opening day of the CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) Tennis Tournament at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10, here, on Saturday.

Top seed Svamin Sharma registered a 9-7 win over Lokesh Pun to move into the final qualifying round of the boys’ U-18 category on the opening day of the CLTA-AITA Championship Series (CS-7) Tennis Tournament at the CLTA Complex, Sector 10, here, on Saturday. 

Local lad Navya Verma won his second-round qualifying match with a 9-2 win over Himanshu Sharma 9-2, while CLTA trainee Gaurav Kumar humbled Aditya Saraswat 9-3.

In the boys’ U-14 category, Iren Singh of CLTA defeated Dhananjay Singh 9-4 in the opening round of the qualifiers. Kesav Dangi and Yash Solanki also won their respective matches. Pranay Sharma humbled Riyansh Malhotra 9-1 to make it to the next round.

The final qualifying round matches in the boys’ U-14 and U-18 categories will be played on Sunday.
