The police have arrested constable Shradhanand in a zero FIR registered for a rape attempt at the Industrial Area police station here.

In a complaint, the victim had stated that she accompanied her friend, who had gone to meet her acquaintances Naveen and Shradhanand, both constables, at Murthal in Sonepat district of Haryana.

The victim alleged that Shardhanand tried to rape her and when she resisted, he thrashed her. She tried to call up the police, but Naveen took her mobile phone and disconnected the call. She managed to escape from there.

Police officials said since the incident took place at Murthal, a zero FIR was registered in Chandigarh and the matter was forwarded to the Haryana Police.

A case under Sections 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354-A (sexual harassment), 376 (rape) and 511 (punishment for attempting to commit offences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment) of the IPC had been registered against them.

Shradhanand was produced in a court, which remanded him in judicial custody. Both constables were suspended and a departmental inquiry initiated against them on Monday.
